Victorian Fiction: A Guide to Research

A companion volume to The Victorian Poets: A Guide to Research (HUP, 1956), this work is a survey and evaluation of the most significant scholarly writing on the Victorian novelists. Each chapter, compiled by a scholar who is an authority on his subject, deals separately with bibliographical, biographical, and critical materials, with special emphasis given to more recent publications. In all, sixteen novelists are treated by thirteen experts. Sponsored by the Victorian Literature Group of the Modern Language Association of America, this invaluable survey is the only reference work of its kind.
